As north-easterly winds brought driving rain into Spalding from the Wash, a handful of hardy Stamford Striders battled their way alongside the wet and windy Welland river bank and out into the marshes to complete the 2nd Tulip 10k race. From 123 entrants only 86 competitors completed the course proving that a warm bed was the preferred option for many on a rain-lashed Sunday morning. Leading the Striders home in 15th place was Mick Revill in 42:54 just one place ahead of Paul Hannah (43:12). Nicholas Smith (47:34) arrived at the finish some minutes later in 33rd position, soon to be followed by Sheona Revill (49th, 52:09) and Celina Silver (70th, 58:15). Not surprisingly there were no personal bests in such challenging conditions, but much personal pride to bring back to Stamford.
