Committee Whos Who?

"I joined Striders in 2008 having been running on my own for a year. I love the calmness and clarity of thought that running brings. The challenge to be the best I can (as an athlete and a person) is also irresistible - there's much more to this than chasing PB's. "
Chairperson: Alan Hayes

"I was born and bred in Stamford and have been running for about 7 years. I started off to get fit as I realised I was closer to 40 than I liked, but soon got the bug and within 3 years had run my first marathon. I have now done 4 marathons and am currently training for London this year."

"I am a UK Athletics Leader in Running and Walking and enjoy getting people started off running and then seeing them develop over the ensuing months and years. Running is a sport that you can enjoy wherever you are and without having to pay a great deal of money .... you just get out there and put one foot in front of the other. Come along and join us and who knows... maybe you will be bitten by the running bug too!"

  Secretary: Alison Marvel

Treasurer: Debbie Fraser

"I started running at the end of April 2009 when I finally took up Strider Brian Kearsey's challenge. I thought I was fit - 4 sets of enthusiastic tennis no problem - but not having run for over 40 years my running limit was about 300 yards before stopping, chest heaving and legs like rubber."

"They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but at the age of 57, thanks to the 2009 beginners course & Striders I have had a fantastic first year of running - solo runs, lots of club runs and some races - rounding off year 1 with the London Marathon and starting year 2 with the Edinburgh Marathon. I love the sense of achievement and getting properly fit for the first time in my life. I love the mix of friendship, help and competition & wish I had discovered running years ago - I could have been good !!"

    Membership Secretary: Robin Ball

"The new boy to Stamford, came from Wales and moved here about 6 years ago. The natives seemed quite friendly so I decided to stay."

"Even though I spend most of my life in front of a computer, I am a marital arts instructor and also enjoy running, mountain biking and hill-walking. I'm also studying to become a personal trainer."

Webmaster: Peter Thomas

"Have been running about 15 years after retiring from Moto-X and Sidecar Grasstrack. I needed another challenge, my sister Sue suggested I should try running. Now I will do most events as long as it creates a challenge, the harder it sounds the better, but as I'm getting a bit older with a few more aches I've taken up photography to help me relax on those recovery days."
    Kit: Mick Revill

"I got into running by joining the Striders' Tuesday night beginners group in 2009. Thanks to the support of this really friendly club I now take part in 10K races most weekends just for the fun of it - plus the occasional half marathon - and still love the banter of the Tuesday and Friday night training sessions. It's a seriously social sport!"
Publicity & Social Officer: Suzanne Moon

"I got back into running in 2007 when I accepted the challenge to join my son in the Great North Run. The run itself was awesome but the lone running in preparation was a bit of a drag. Having bumped into the Stamford Striders at the Great Eastern Run that year I joined up and have been running with them, both socially and competitively ever since."
    Race Director: Nick Wells

"Born in Stamford, I have been running for almost 25 years both for social pleasure and competitive running. My favourite distances are Half Marathons and Marathons but run at all distances for the Striders. I am a qualified UK Athletics Endurance Running Coach and enjoy helping novices improve their running. Its a great sport to be in and you will make many new friends."
