Race Details - St Valentines 30k 2011
Date:
11am Sun 13th of Feb 2011
Cost:
£18 (£16 Affiliated)
The Stamford Striders' St Valentine 30K Race is the flagship event organised by the Club. It is run each year on the Sunday closest to St Valentine's Day, 14 February.
It is recognised nationally as a tough event, providing a good training run for those planning to run the Flora London Marathon.
Competitors travel the length and breadth of the country to compete on the hilly, challenging course, taking in some of the nicest rural lanes of South Lincolnshire.
2011 will be its 18th year and, although limited to 750 runners it always sells out early. A very popular race, especially for runners competing in spring marathons who use it as a training how-goes-it run, it has worked its way up to 19th in the Runners World list of 100 Top UK Races from feedback from entrants.
Starting and finishing at the Queen Eleanor School in Stamford the course winds its way through Little Casterton, Tolethorpe, Ryhall, Careby, Pickworth and Great Casterton on a challenging rural
undulating
route.
Course records are 1:38:55 for men (set by Martin Cox from Bristol and West in 2005). 2010 saw the previous ladies course record held by Nicola Clay from Stilton in 2008 broken by Jenny Blizzard of Rotherham Harriers in 1:57:18. Besides the normal prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd there are also prizes for age and team categories, 100 for beating course records and, of course, sentimental old fools that we are, we give prizes to runners taking part as Valentines Couples.
Race numbers and chips will be issued on the day. There will be no entry on the day allowed. Massage facilities will be available on site for a voluntary charity donation. Please Note: You must be 18 years or older to enter.
What better way can there be to show your love than run 18 miles through Lincs and Rutland on a freezing cold Feb morning! Finally, everyone taking part gets a generous goody bag with an event T-shirt and a packet of now legendary
love hearts
